SEADOTs Endorses the EU Mission Charter: Restore Our Ocean and Waters by 2030
We are proud to announce that the SEADOTs project has officially endorsed the EU Mission Charter: Restore Our Ocean and Waters by 2030—a European Commission initiative uniting stakeholders across public, private, and research sectors to protect and regenerate our blue planet.
By joining the Charter, SEADOTs aligns itself with the Mission’s three core objectives:
- Protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity
- Prevent and eliminate pollution of our ocean, seas, and waters
- Promote a carbon-neutral and circular blue economy
How SEADOTs Contributes to the Mission
SEADOTs (Social-Ecological ocean management Applications with Digital Ocean Twins) aims to develop cutting-edge Digital Ocean Twins (DOTs) that integrate ecological, socio-economic, and human activity data. These DOTs will support more informed and adaptive decision-making in ocean governance across the Baltic Sea, Southern North Sea, and Norwegian North Sea.
The project contributes to the Mission’s goals by:
- Supporting marine spatial planning and policy development through advanced simulations
- Providing spatially-explicit social-ecological data in line with FAIR principles
- Encouraging citizen and stakeholder engagement through training, outreach, and participatory approaches
- Promoting replicable and scalable digital solutions for ecosystem management and pollution monitoring
SEADOTs is further strengthened by the involvement of partners active in EU Mission and Green Deal projects, as well as by an Advisory Board of experts from marine science, social sciences, policy, and best practices in ocean management.
A Collective Commitment
Endorsing the Mission Charter reinforces SEADOTs' commitment to collaborative, science-driven, and sustainable ocean and water management. By working within the wider Mission community, the project contributes to a Europe-wide effort to safeguard marine ecosystems and ensure a healthier ocean for future generations.
